THEY BLUEY IT: Vegas Restaurant Disappoints Thousands with Pathetically Costumed Kids Character

May 11, 2024, is a day that will live in infamy for the more than 3,000 people who schlepped to a Las Vegas event promoting the opportunity to “meet Bluey friends.”

Waiting for them at the fast-food restaurant Dirt Dog, at 8390 S. Rainbow Blvd., was a dude attired in a plastic dime-store onesie and what was apparently a dog-poop bag affixed to his face.

Social media comments from parents posted after the debacle showed not only a line out the door of the tiny eatery, but the massive letdown at the front of it.

“Temu Bluey costume and decorations from Dollar Tree,” wrote Kevin Tagenhorst below the event s Facebook ad. “Thanks for ruining my 3-year-old’s day!”

“You pissed off a community of parents,” added Leiren Theroux. “I’ll never be back to your establishment. My daughter was super disappointed.”

“I drove one hour just to see a grown man in PJs,” another parent wrote, while yet another posted a Facebook marketplace listing for a proper Bluey costume the eatery could have rented for $85.

“The kids were distraught, some were crying,” Stephanie Hernandez, whose daughter Sophia was super-excited at the prospect of meeting an actual TV star, told KVVU-TV/Las Vegas, which broke the story.

Young Sophia added: “I was mad. He looked unexpected. We could see his beard.”

We Blue It

A restaurant spokesperson issued an apology to those disappointed by “Bluey Day,”  which is basically everyone who attended it, explaining that restaurant employees planned the event for their regulars, expecting 50-60 people max, not “the whole city coming out.”

The spokesperson added that they are working on securing the “real” Bluey for a future appearance.
